SCHOTT PYRAN® Platinum Fire-Rated Glass-
Ceramic Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM by MBDC.
· Only fire-rated glass-ceramic to receive this
certification
· Helps qualify projects for LEED Certification
June 10, 2010 (at American Institute of Architects
Conference
and Exposition in Miami, Booth
1217)
– Architects and
designers searching for fire-rated glass solutions that
will
help qualify projects for LEED certification finally have
an
option. SCHOTT PYRAN® Platinum fire-rated glass-ceramic
has been Cradle to Cradle (C2C) CertifiedCM-Silver by
McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC).
Cradle to Cradle® Certification is a rigorous eco-label
that
evaluates the impacts of a product and its manufacturing
process throughout its lifecycle, including recyclability
and
toxicity to human and environmental health.
SCHOTT PYRAN® Platinum uses innovative production
processes that do not require the use of environmentally
damaging heavy metals arsenic, antimony and barium.
“SCHOTT PYRAN® Platinum is the only glass-ceramic in the
world produced via the Microfloat process,” said Dan
Poling,
Sales Manger, Fire-Rated Glass for SCHOTT in North
America. “Our process provides a superior surface quality
and color rendition, while also removing heavy metals that
could harm the environment. Really, everyone wins.”
Qualifed for USGBC’s LEED
Certification
Because SCHOTT PYRAN® Platinum fire-rated glassceramics
are Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM -Silver they
can
contribute points towards a U.S. Green Building Council’s
(USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design(LEED) building certification. The Innovation in
Design Credit in any LEED Rating System can be earned if
2.5-5% of the building materials budget is used on Cradle
to
Cradle Certified products. Furthermore, C2C
CertifiedCM
products qualify for LEED points as
Environmentally
Preferable Materials (MR 2.2) in the LEED for Homes Rating
System.
Recognized by EPA Environmentally
Preferable
Purchasing Program
C2C Certification also qualifies products to be
listed in the
U.S. EPA’s Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP)
database. Federal agencies are directed by executive
orders
to make purchasing decisions with the environment in mind,
and the EPP database is a tool used to facilitate the
purchase of products and services with reduced
environmental impacts. Environmentally preferable products
are those that have a “lesser or reduced effect on human
health and the environment when compared with competing
products that serve the same purpose.” No other
glassceramic
on the market meets these requirements.
